The universal language of music is a powerful tool for bringing love and justice to the world. Thankfully, we have Will Tuttle’s beautiful piano music, such as his “Animal Songs” album. Paul Seymour has given us “Maybe JC Was a Vegetarian,” among others; Daniel Redwood has written “Someone Not Something: A Sanctuary Song,” and is working on more. Now we have Maria Daines singing and writing many songs for animals. One of her pieces is entitled “Celebrate Your Love.” The last verse of this song speaks of our love for animals and the love that has come back to us from them--
“We want to celebrate your love
For only love can truly save
For every happy day we shared
There is a smile, a wagging tail
You've given more than you could know
And brought a joy that outlives time
Though you were broken when you came
You healed and loved and loved again.”

Although we refer to animals sometimes as voiceless, actually they provide most of the music on the planet. From insects to great blue whales, their melodies, rhythms, and vibrations call upon all human beings to live in harmony and peace with divine mystery and with them. On Will’s “Animal Songs” album, he states, “The voices of our animal relations, haunting and sweet, gruff and humorous, blend endlessly and melodiously with the winds and waters, and with the heavenly music that swirls around our earth.”
This week in our prayers, actions, and thoughts, let us listen to the music of the uni-verse, the one verse of love that encircles the earth all the time. May these wondrous sounds fill you with hope and strength as we work together to establish a world of peace for all beings. In her song, “Hymn to the Voiceless,” Maria sings, “Let there be love, Freedom abounding, Let there be heroes, Peace in my time, Sorrow be gone, Voiceless I'm falling, Hold me forever and ever, Let me belong…”
