One of the great gifts that comes to us when we align ourselves with justice, peace, and liberation for all beings is that our souls are free to be alive and awake. As Eleanora Duse wrote (quoted in the spring, 2013 edition of "La Joie" of the Animals' Peace Garden):
"If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy,
If a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you,
If the simple things in nature have a message you understand,
Rejoice, for your soul is alive."
Martin Luther King, Jr. pointed out the other side of the coin when he stated:
"Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being
of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared
to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way."
How blessed we are to have been able to take society's blinders off and to resist the urge to deny our empathy. This week, let us focus our thoughts, prayers, and actions on the true vision of all souls awakening to the truth. In that awakening, they will find the joy that comes from being moved by a blade of grass and from knowing finally and deeply that all life is sacred.
