How Can We Honor the Animals Who Have Been Killed by Human Beings?  Christa Blanke, author of Let My People Go: Claiming the Bible for the Animals, has found a very unique and powerful way.  Her group is Animals’ Angels.  They follow animals in trucks to slaughterhouses, bearing witness, reporting atrocities, and helping the animals when they can.   She states, “Since we started our work in 1996 animals-angels.de inspectors have met literally hundreds of thousands of animals all over the world, deported from their homes, separated from the companions they love, frightened to death, transported for days on end and finally murdered.”  The newly established website, animalmemorial.org, “shows that they are not forgotten. We gave them names and trust that their real names are known in heaven. We publish their photographs to show the world that they were persons in their own right. We keep their images in our hearts and continue the fight for the animals' freedom from deportation and death.  This website is updated regularly – in memory of the fallen.”
 
Prayers and Thoughts This Week “In Memory of the Fallen.” Let us go to www.animalmemorial.org and as we see the sweet photos and read each name, let us honor each one of them--each one, as Christa said, “a person.”  And as we read each name and look into their eyes, we remember that there are billions of others who were never given names by people, but they gave each other names.  So in our hearts, although we never knew those names, we know they had them.  We know they were loved by their families and friends, even if only for a short time.  Together, let us imagine the souls of all these animals somehow sensing that there is a growing group of human beings who have not forgotten them.  Dear animals, your life on earth was precious to you, to your families, and to us.  You brought beauty, gentleness, and love to earth while you were here. We mourn your passing, and we dedicate everything we do this week to your memory and to the bright and shining hope for a future of freedom and peace for all your children. Please do not lose hope.  We will not give up.  

May compassion and love reign over all the earth for all beings everywhere.
