“Swords Into Plowshares”—Why it Hasn’t
Worked To End War: The phrase, which has Biblical origins, has
been used in modern times as a cry for peace and an end to war.
The idea of taking all our weapons of minor and mass destruction,
melting them down, and transforming them into implements of agriculture
has inspired many. But it falls short. In spite of all the
efforts to rid the world of war and weapons, the worldwide military
complex is thriving. According to many of history’s greatest
thinkers, along with today’s animal activists, wars and violence among
human beings will not end until the war on animals is terminated.
After all, most of the “plowshares” are used to grow grain to feed
farmed animals who are destined for lives of misery and violent deaths.
Prayer and Action for this Week: Let
us share the quotes listed below on social media all week long.
And just before we push “send” or “post,” let us breathe into them--a
blessing, a prayer, or a mighty intention—that Divine Intelligence will
assist in helping these seeds of wisdom to land on fertile ground in
open hearts all over the world. And as we imagine these precious words
reaching each person, we feel such joyous gratitude that they are
reading these words and feeling their radical power and truth.
Here are the quotes to share this week. May they bless and
enlighten billions of human hearts and help to bring true peace and
sanctuary to all animals and all people.
“As long as people will shed the blood of innocent creatures there can
be no peace, no liberty, no harmony between people. Slaughter and
justice cannot dwell together.”--Isaac Bashevis Singer
“As long as there are slaughterhouses, there will be
battlefields.”--Tolstoy
“Until he extends the circle of compassion to all living things, man
will not himself find peace.” --Albert Schweitzer
“Until we have the courage to recognize cruelty for what it is--whether
its victim is human or animal--we cannot expect things to be much
better in this world... We cannot have peace among men whose hearts
delight in killing any living creature. By every act that glorifies or
even tolerates such moronic delight in killing we set back the progress
of humanity.”--Rachel Carson
“We are the living graves of murdered beasts, slaughtered to satisfy
our appetites. How can we hope in this world to attain the peace we say
we are so anxious for?” --George Bernard Shaw
“For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other.
Indeed, he who sows the seed of murder and pain cannot reap joy and
love.”--Pythagoras
As always, with tears of gratitude, I send my thanks to each of you,
dear Prayer Circle members, for joining this circle of compassion and
shining the Light of Truth for all to see, so that one day soon, all
beings will live in peace together.
May compassion and love reign over all the earth for all beings
everywhere.
Thank you all for your devotion to truth, love, liberation and peace
for all beings.
With Love, peace, and gratitude from Judy Carman, and greetings from
