Greetings of love and gratitude from
Judy Carman
On May 4 we stand tall for
International Respect for Chickens Day. This important day was
initiated by United Poultry Concerns
(www.upc-online.org) in
2005. Its purpose is to celebrate chickens as well as to protest
their abuse. President of UPC, Karen Davis, urges “everyone to do
a compassionate ACTION for chickens, on or around May 4th… “A library
display, a vegan open house, an informative blog post, or simply
talking to family and friends about the plight – and delight – of
chickens are great ways to stick up for chickens,” Davis suggests. Also
the month of May is International Respect for Chickens Month. As
a Prayer Circle we can combine our actions with prayers and help pave
the way for all the activism that will take place on that day and month
by infusing every event with metaphysical power.
When I wrote Peace to All Beings, I gave it the subtitle of Veggie Soup
for the Chicken’s Soul.
That subtitle was, of course, meant to shake people into questioning
why all the Chicken Soup for the Soul books had such oxymoronic
titles. The endless stream of books seemed to be aimed at making people
feel better, yet in every single title, there was violence and total
disrespect for chickens. It was as if the chickens did not even
exist except as soup for human souls. In my book (p. 209) I share two
stories about chickens. “A scientist wishing to study chicken
behavior placed 21 guinea fowl eggs into a chicken’s nest. He
assumed the chicken was too stupid to realize the guineas were not her
babies. Imagine his surprise when the mother chicken led her
little adopted guineas not to chicken feed, but rather to an ant nest
where she showed them how to scratch the nest for pupae… just the right
food for guinea babies. Another scientist placed duck eggs in a
chicken’s nest to see what she would do. To his amazement, she
led her little ducklings to the water and encouraged them to swim.”
Our Prayers—In Honor, In Memory, In
Deep and Enduring Respect—For Chickens. Dear chickens of
earth, we know that billions of you are suffering right now at the
hands of human beings, and so our spirits and the Love that enlivens
the universe reach out to every single one of you. In spirit, we
hold each one of you in our arms and ask Divine Intelligence to send
Infinite Love to each of you, to bless you, to ease your pain, to let
you know you are not alone, to let you know there are millions of us
who respect you and see who you really are. You bring us beauty
in your sweet faces and peace in your gentle ways. We join with
you, dear chickens, in crying out for an end to the violent stealing of
your eggs, your babies, and your bodies; for an end to using you for
any purpose. We cry out with you, knowing that Universal Love and
all human souls hear those cries. And with you we hold in our
hearts the True and Real Vision of the coming world in which all your
children are free to live their own lives in peace and freedom.
May all human beings awaken immediately and vow to never again use,
kill, confine, or eat these wondrous beings known as chickens.
May peace, compassion, love and respect prevail for all chickens
everywhere on earth. We will not forget you; we will not stop
until you are all free. (Part of this is reprinted from last
year’s Prayer Circle.)
As always, with tears of gratitude, I send my thanks to each of you,
dear Prayer Circle members, for joining this circle of compassion and
shining the Light of Truth for all to see, so that one day soon, all
beings will live in peace together.
May compassion and love reign over all the earth for all beings
everywhere.
Thank you all for your devotion to truth, love, liberation and peace
for all beings.
With Love, peace, and gratitude from Judy Carman, and greetings from
