And Our Prayer for the Week from Judy Carman
EXOTIC ANIMAL SHOWS ARE LOSING GROUND. The Los Angeles City
Council is considering banning the use of exotic animals in the city limits
which would effectively eliminate circuses with exotic animals from performing
there. Meanwhile, two beluga whales, who were incarcerated and forced to
perform at the Vancouver Aquarium in Canada for decades, died. They were mother
and daughter. Daughter, Qila, showed severe signs of psychological distress
during her life and died prematurely. Her mother died shortly after that, no
doubt, from unbearable grief. Sea World has caused the untimely deaths of over
100 whales in the last 50 years. These deaths and the torture of circus animals
show the world once again, the dark and ugly cruelty of industries that claim
to entertain.
THIS WEEK’S PRAYER FOR HUMANITY TO AWAKEN TO THE ABSURDITY OF
ANIMAL “ENTERTAINMENT.” Caring people have been lied to
for centuries and programmed into believing that the industry of animal
“entertainment” is kind to animals. The purveyors of these
performances know the truth behind the scenes, but their profits have caused
them to turn a blind eye, mind and heart to the brutality of their actions. But
the truth is being revealed as more and more animals suffer and die. This week,
in honor of Qila and her mother, let us hold tightly to this truth. Let us
shine a light on it in every possible way—through spiritual work and
through actions. Let us know with our whole hearts and with absolute
conviction, that this barbaric behavior is coming to an end. People are waking
up and realizing that circuses and aquariums are not fun or entertaining. They
are prisons for innocent animals who long to be free. And let us feel and
anchor this magnificent shift that is taking place in human hearts--from
blindly believing animals are ours to use, to an entirely new mindset of living
in kinship with all beings. Many people who have or will soon stop supporting
these places of torture are also feeling a shift in heart and mind about
animals whom they have been eating. As we stand together and pray and visualize
together, may we go forward with confidence in the beauty of this vision. May
the music of freedom and truth be the entertainment and the joy we have all
been seeking.
As always, I send my thanks to each of you, dear Prayer Circle members, for
May Divine Wisdom, the animals’ grace, and our true hearts guide us
toward ahimsa, peace, liberation, and lovingkindness for all. As always, I send
my thanks to each of you, dear Prayer Circle members, for joining this circle
of compassion and shining the Light of Truth for all to see, so that one day
soon, all beings will live in peace together.
With Love, peace, and gratitude from Judy Carman, and greetings from Will,
