Prayer Circle for Animals Weekly Update
January 7, 2013

Our prayers for all animals continue to circle the earth, to uplift humanity's consciousness, and to bless the animals themselves. Thank you for joining people around the world who are praying this prayer in many different languages but all with the same love:

"COMPASSION ENCIRCLES THE EARTH FOR ALL BEINGS EVERYWHERE"

PETA recently announced that "President Obama has just signed into law a bill that includes language requiring the Department of Defense to create a strategy and timeline by March 1, 2013, for replacing the shooting, stabbing, and dismembering of animals in military training drills with human simulators and other modern non-animal methods." That is heavenly news.

In addition to those good tidings, a scientist-led Cambridge Declaration of Consciousness has made public a consensus that non-human animals experience emotions. It seems it takes a long time to prove scientifically what most caring people have always known. The declaration states in part:

"The absence of a neocortex does not appear to preclude an organism from experiencing affective states. Convergent evidence indicates that non-human animals have the neuroanatomical, neurochemical, and neurophysiological substrates of conscious states along with the capacity to exhibit intentional behaviors. Consequently, the weight of evidence indicates that humans are not unique in possessing the neurological substrates that generate consciousness. Nonhuman animals, including all mammals and birds, and many other creatures, including octopuses, also possess these neurological substrates."

The Declaration was publicly proclaimed in Cambridge, UK, on July 7, 2012, at the Francis Crick Memorial Conference on Consciousness in Human and non-Human Animals, at the University of Cambridge. The Declaration was signed by attending scientists. CBS 60 Minutes reported on this ground breaking declaration.

If you read the entire Declaration, it is chilling to realize that countless animals suffered and died in the experiments that led to these conclusions. But looking forward, if these scientifically based findings can help bring an end to animal experimentation, then these precious beings will not have died in vain.

Let us use this momentum that is building at the Department of Defense and among the Cambridge Declaration scientists in our actions and prayers to see a golden future in which all animals are finally understood as intelligent, feeling beings and are forever liberated from the primitive, exploitative human consciousness that has caused them so much suffering.
